Fine Arts

An opportunity to explore music, theatre and visual arts both inside and outside the classroom, Saint Viator offers a full complement of Fine Arts courses that draws students to explore music, theater and visual arts.

Performing Arts: Choir and Band

  • Music Ministry brings together vocalists and instrumentalists in the planning and performing of music at Mass.
  • Students are seated in either the Concert Band or the more sophisticated, Symphonic Band.
  • The two groups perform separately and combined to share the talents of our students.
  • Every other year, the choir and band travels to Walt Disney World in Orlando to perform and participate in workshops.
  • Students in Concert Choir learn a mix of traditional choral literature with pop, Broadway tunes and Gospel spirituals.
  • Members of Concert Choir may also perform in smaller ensembles, such as Chamber Singers.
  • Choir members sing at school Masses and other special events for the school and surrounding communities throughout the year.

Theatre

  • Theater I and Theater II provide a foundation in acting and production, covering improvisation, character development and performance.
  • Film Study and Production provides students with the critical skills and historical background necessary to analyze film. Students produce short films with classmates to demonstrate the techniques and styles covered in class.

Art, Design and Technology

  • Introduction to Visual Arts exposes students to the elements and principles of design, giving them hands-on experience in drawing, painting, design, sculpture and creating other art forms using a variety of technology.
  • iPad Media Arts and Introduction to Adobe Photoshop introduce the aesthetics of photography and photo and video editing.
  • 2-D Design and Advanced 2-D Design focuses on the intermediate and advanced study of two dimensional art including drawing, painting, design and digital art.
  • 3-D Design and Advanced 3-D Design focuses on the study of three dimensional art including clay, additive and subtractive sculpture, and 3-D printing.

Winter and Spring Arts Festivals

  • The Winter and Spring Arts Festivals give the academic classes and co-curricular programs an opportunity to showcase their talents to the school and community.
  • The Spring Arts Festival features a juried art show that awards winners in various categories.
  • Each year, one student's artwork is selected from the spring show to be added to the President's Purchase Gallery, which is on display outside the Academic Commons.
