Preparing students for their futures by providing a solid foundation in math

Curriculum

  • Multiple levels of classes, including five at the freshmen level alone, allow students to advance at their level.
  • Students can customize their course of study to meet their needs and abilities.
  • Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Advanced Mathematics, Statistics, and AB and BC Calculus are offered in the department.
  • College credit may be obtained by taking AP Calculus AB or AP Calculus BC.

Achievements

  • The average ACT score in math for the Class of 2016 is 25.1; state average is 20.6.
  • Our ACT math score has risen from 23.6 in 2008 to 25.1 in 2016.

Additional Info

  • The Math Lab is equipped with computers and staffed by the math department faculty throughout the day to provide assistance to students outside the classroom.
  • Department faculty includes Rev. Arnold Perham, C.S.V., an award-winning and published mathematician.

Math Club and Math Team

  • Co-curricular activities in math complement our students’ academic growth, developing their skills outside the classroom.
  • Saint Viator students regularly place among the top 20 high schools in the state in the Illinois Math League competition.
  • The Saint Viator Math Team has qualified to compete in the state math competition for the past three years by winning at the regional level.
  • Last year, the team won two team trophies and one individual trophy.
