Sale of Pink Polos Returns to Benefit Cancer Research
Get ready for a pink out!
Once again, the popular Saint Viator pink uniform polos will be available for sale through an online pop-up shop for one week only – Friday, September 6 through Friday, September 13. The pink polos are highly sought after, as evidenced last month by the seniors who wore them at their opening tailgate.
The tradition dates back to the spring of 2011 when Dean Deborah Scerbicke battled breast cancer. That year, when she returned to school, seniors had dyed their polos pink and lined the main hallway in the morning as she came in.
“It is one of the highlights of my more than 20 years at Saint Viator,” Dean Scerbicke says. “This is also when the kids began to call me ‘Dean Deb’ as a term of endearment.”
The tribute meant so much to Dean Scerbicke that she had one of the original pink polos framed in her office.
The pink polos now are sold every other year, on the even years. Consequently, after the one-week pop-up window sale, they will not be available again until 2026. They will not be sold in the McKenna Marketplace.
The sale of the pink polos will benefit the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Foundation, one of the nation’s leading breast cancer research and education organizations. Its mission is to eradicate breast cancer by investing in early-career doctors and innovative research. All of this inspires Dean Scerbicke as she sees the sustained commitment by Saint Viator students to support her battle but also become involved in the larger war against breast cancer.
“I am honored by the legacy,” she says, “and delighted with the sale of pink polos that together, we can support cancer research.”
Located in Arlington Heights, IL, Saint Viator High School is a private, co-ed, Catholic school for grades 9-12. Students benefit from a challenging academic program, fine and performing arts, competitive athletics, and a wide selection of extracurricular activities.
