Greetings from Saint Viator! I hope you and your families have enjoyed a restful summer. It is hard to believe that another school year is about to begin. I would especially like to welcome the students and families of the Class of 2026. I am pleased to share that we have a significantly larger freshman class this year thanks to our hard-working Enrollment team.
I am excited about this new school year. We have a new Principal this year, Mr. Jon Baffico. Mr. Baffico comes to us from Saint Patrick High School in Chicago where he served for nine years as Principal. He started at Saint Viator in early July and has done a tremendous job preparing for the 2022-2023 school year. One of his main tasks this summer was the hiring of our new teachers. I can honestly say that we have one of the strongest faculties in Saint Viator history.
I’m pleased to share that there were several building improvement projects launched this summer. With the help of some very generous donors, our chapel has been beautifully enhanced and we have two brand-new “model classrooms.” The plan for the future is to update all of the classrooms in the building over time with improved lighting, more contemporary furnishings, and the latest technology.
The third capital project was spearheaded by the generosity of attendees of the 2022 Million Dollar Classic. Though it has been somewhat delayed because of supply chain issues, we are proud to share that the space currently referred to as “the fishbowl” will be remodeled as a community gathering space and wellness bar, dedicated to Mr. Steve Burks, our longtime Director of Building and Grounds, who passed away last January.
Perhaps most importantly, our academic curriculum has also been enhanced. We are introducing a new Engineering program this year by adopting Project Lead the Way. We are also excited for the inaugural year of Forensics class, Digital Imaging and Design II, Introduction to Digital Photography, Environmental Justice, AP Psychology, and Genocide Studies.
So, we are off and running. Please remember that if you have any concerns or questions, do not hesitate to contact me. Enjoy these last days of summer!
