Seniors Owen Kelly, Henry Marshall, and Aidan McLeod have earned national recognition for their academics and leadership. Today, they were named National Merit Finalists—after being named semifinalists in September—and can now compete for a National Merit Scholarship.
Principal Jon Baffico made the announcement and added that the distinguished award makes the entire school proud.
“This prestigious achievement places them among the top 1% of high school seniors nationwide, a testament to their dedication, academic excellence, and leadership,” Mr. Baffico said. “Their hard work, commitment to learning, and engagement in both school and the community have earned them this well-deserved recognition. Congratulations to these outstanding students on this remarkable accomplishment!"
Saint Viator’s National Merit Finalists are among the state's highest-scoring entrants. They were named semifinalists—and ultimately finalists—based on their junior PSAT scores in 2023.
To advance from semifinalist to finalist, a student must demonstrate a strong academic record, participation in school and community activities, and have demonstrated leadership abilities.
“Their dedication, intellectual prowess, and commitment to excellence have not only brought honor to themselves but have also elevated the reputation of our school,” Mr. Baffico said. “We commend these exceptional individuals for their hard work and commendable achievement as they represent the epitome of academic excellence at Saint Viator High School.”
Located in Arlington Heights, IL, Saint Viator High School is a private, co-ed, Catholic school for grades 9-12. Students benefit from a challenging academic program, fine and performing arts, competitive athletics, and a wide selection of extracurricular activities.
