Saint Viator High School Leadership Transition Announced

Rev. Daniel Lydon, C.S.V. has announced that he will not seek another term as President of Saint Viator High School after the current school year. In a letter to school families yesterday, Fr. Lydon said that as his initial three-year term expires June 30, 2024, he will move into other ministries.

“It is customary in our school’s recent history that the term for a President is three years. It is also customary in school administration to always be planning a year ahead in all aspects of school operation. Along with the Viatorian Board of Governors, I have determined that the 2023-24 school year will be my last in the role of President. The Board of Governors, the Saint Viator High School Board of Trustees, and a search firm will soon engage in a comprehensive process to identify the next President to lead Saint Viator High School beginning July 1, 2024,” Fr. Lydon stated in the letter.

Fr. Lydon is a 1973 graduate of Saint Viator and previously has served Saint Viator High School as an administrator and faculty member for nearly 20 years.

Fr. Mark Francis, C.S.V., Provincial Superior of the Clerics of St. Viator lauded Fr. Lydon for his commitment to the school.

“The Board of Governors is grateful for Fr. Lydon’s ministry as President over the past several years. His dedication to Catholic education and his efforts at maintaining academic excellence and promoting a community of faith among students, faculty, and staff have strengthened the Viatorian mission at Saint Viator High School," Fr. Francis said.

In reflecting on his term as President, Fr. Lydon shared a list of accomplishments that he considered significant including leading the school out of the COVID era, strengthening the Catholic identity in all aspects of the school, restructuring the administrative team, achieving sound financial footing, stabilizing enrollment trends, and this summer’s complete overhaul of classrooms throughout the school which added new acoustics, lighting, flooring, HVAC, and technology.

“Our school is uniquely positioned to educate and inspire students for the foreseeable future with these improvements,” Fr. Lydon said. “In addition, our new Burks Place gathering area is a contemporary setting for students, staff, faculty, and visitors to meet and collaborate.”

Fr. Lydon expects business as usual for him throughout the remainder of the academic year. He anticipates taking a brief sabbatical after his successor is in place.
