Athletic Director Jason Kuffel has announced the hiring of Raegan Woolwine as the new head coach for the girls’ lacrosse team. Woolwine comes to the Lions from Benet Academy where she has served as JV coach for the past several years.

David Petrovich ’18 was the only Zoom participant in Thursday’s veterans’ panel. But his experience in the military resonated with students. Petrovich attended the Naval Academy after Saint Viator. He was commissioned in May and now, as a naval officer, he is waiting to start flight school.

As we begin the 2022-23 school year, I would be remiss if I did not take a moment and first thank all the people here at Saint Viator High School for making my transition from Saint Patrick High School so seamless. From the Administration to the Maintenance Crew, everyone has been supportive and helpful as we get ready for the school year. I have had the opportunity to meet many people since I was announced as Principal back on April 7 and look forward to meeting many more members of the community in the upcoming days and weeks. I have been incredibly impressed with the passion, enthusiasm, and sincere care for the building and people that make Saint Viator a vibrant place to be. It is evident that Saint Viator is more than just a private, Catholic, co-educational high school. Simply stated, it is a family and a way of life.
Out of all the new faculty and staff members who have joined Saint Viator High School this year, Br. Jhobany Orduz, CSV, may have come the furthest. He is working part-time in Campus Ministry as he completes his ministry practicum as part of his Master’s in Divinity degree at Catholic Theological Union in Chicago.

Saint Viator High School and its Mobile Apps class are on a roll. Last year, Marcelina Gorny ’23 took second place for her app design, and this year, Bridget Kopp ’24 took first place in a build your own app contest.
The competition was sponsored by the Barrington-based Uncharted Learning and its MobileMakersEdu program. The unique offering is a way to ‘light up’ students around coding and foster an entrepreneurial mindset.

Service is one of the core values at Saint Viator High School and that was full display last week as its unique Service & Song Camp returned. A total of 50 middle school students participated in the camp, along with more than 20 students from Saint Viator who served as leaders, and another 13 adults who led individual teams.

Congratulations to the 74 juniors inducted into Saint Viator's National Honor Society late last month. The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation’s premier organization established to recognize outstanding high school students.
Saint Viator’s bass fishing team is making quite a name for itself. For the second time since the club was formed (2009), these anglers are heading to the state tournament. Luke Altman ’23, Lucas Doland ’22, and Colton Faulkner ’23 were on the qualifying boat, with their combined catch of 11.9 pounds of bass. Their catch—hauled on May 5 at the Busse Woods Reservoir— was good enough for second place and a berth to the state tournament.
Athletic Director Jason Kuffel moved quickly to hire a new coach for the school’s cheerleading program, naming Alexandra Hoffman to the role. Hoffman comes to Saint Viator from Loyola Academy where she has served as Assistant Coach for both the JV and Varsity teams.
Congratulations to Saint Viator’s Academic Team on placing 5th out of 31 teams at the state finals of the Academic Challenge, sponsored by the University of Illinois and its Worldwide Youth in Science and Engineering initiative, last month. The team also brought home two individual first-place state medals.
Both Erin Edwards and Anna Bartelt came to Saint Viator High School in 2018 from St. Mary's in Buffalo Grove. Together, they've navigated through the last four unpredictable years, and plan to continue to do the same next year, as they both begin classes at the University of Illinois - Urbana Champaign.

Saint Viator Athletic Director Jason Kuffel has announced the hiring of a new team of coaches for the school’s wrestling program. Mike Schneider has been brought in as the new head coach and he has announced the hiring of two new assistant coaches.
It was just a few months ago, that Saint Viator seniors Casey Hintz and Anthony Pluto were headed to play baseball at the junior college level, as a stepping stone to a major program. On Wednesday, the two teammates signed letters of intent to play at the University of Arizona, one of the power five conferences (Pac-12) in the country, to play for the highly-rated Wildcats.
Christopher Rapala and Anthony Pluta have been named valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, of Saint Viator High School’s Class of 2022. These awards are determined by the highest cumulative GPA over four years. Anthony is graduating with a GPA of 4.82, and Christopher with the highest cumulative GPA of 4.83.
Congratulations to the following student recipients of the Patrons of the Arts Fine Arts Academic Scholarships. Each student will receive $550 that will be applied toward a Fine Arts course for the 2022-23 school year.
Saint Viator’s Fine Arts Department hosted one of our first senior events earlier this week, celebrating the seniors who plan to pursue the arts in college. Students gathered with parents and faculty on Monday to officially announce their college decisions at the school's Fine Arts Signing Day.

Saint Viator High School has announced the hiring of alumnus Arika Cozzi '08, DAT, LAT, ATC, as the school’s new Athletic Trainer. Cozzi will begin her role in early March. In making the announcement, Athletic Director Jason Kuffel noted Cozzi’s extensive experience working with high schools in the area and in Arizona, and her desire to specifically work in a Catholic school environment.
When Mr. Bill Faltinoski joined the fine arts department in 1982, he was assigned to teach art – and to expand the curriculum by offering photography classes. The assignment meant building a completely outfitted darkroom and creating classes around black and white 35-millimeter cameras. Some 40 years later, those early classes made an impact.

At the annual State of the Art Catholic Band Competition, the Symphonic Band was named Grand Champion of the festival—scoring highest out of all 14 competing bands across all classes.
That’s not all. They placed first in class 2A and swept all of the caption awards in the class, including Best Woodwinds, Best Brass, and Best Percussion.

Saint Viator’s bowling team held their last day of practice last week ahead of this weekend’s boys’ regional tournament. The end of the season is bittersweet for these student-athletes. Simply put, they don’t want the season to end.
