Dr. Erika Mickelburgh Selected as Next Principal of Saint Viator High School

Saint Viator High School proudly announces Dr. Erika Mickelburgh, Ed.D., as its new principal effective July 1, 2025.

Dr. Mickelburgh joyfully stated, “I am very excited to join the team at Saint Viator High School! As a parent of a current senior and former board member, I have experienced firsthand the mission of Saint Viator and look forward to partnering with the faculty and staff to strengthen the already evident vision of excellence.”

Dr. Mickelburgh, who is also an adjunct instructor at Loyola University, served on the Saint Viator Board of Trustees from 2021 to 2024. Her background is quite extensive, with more than 20 years of educational administrative experience. Since 2018, Dr. Mickelburgh has served as Principal at Saint Paul of the Cross School in Park Ridge, where she has significantly increased enrollment, implemented a comprehensive inclusion and student wellness program, led multiple capital improvement projects, and helped develop and implement the Endowment Scholarship Program, which supports teacher graduate programs.

Dr. Mickelburgh was also the Head of Secondary School at Saint Benedict Prep, where she increased student achievement, drastically increased college acceptance and academic merit-based scholarship awards, and led the implementation of National Standards and Common Core alignment into the curriculum.

During her time as President/Principal at Saint Gregory High School, Dr. Mickelburgh developed a faculty and staff evaluation program, revamped the counseling department to include comprehensive college and social-emotional programming, and created a service-based technology curriculum.

Before Dr. Mickelburgh implemented effective changes as an administrator, she taught high school English, World History, and ESL. In 2024, the National Catholic Education Association recognized her with the Lead, Learn, Proclaim Award, and in 2022, Loyola University honored her with the Administration and Supervision Distinguished Alumni Award.

Dr. Mickelburgh’s leadership is evident in her involvement on several boards and teams for Loyola University, the State of Illinois, and the Chicago Archdiocese of Catholic Schools.

She brings an extensive educational background to Saint Viator, holding an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and an M.Ed. in Instructional Leadership from Loyola University, an M.A. in Teaching from Dominican University, and a B.A. in English and Political Science from DePaul University.

“We look forward to an incredible future under the leadership and guidance of Dr. Mickelburgh,” stated President Ryan Aiello. “We know she will guide and support our teachers and serve the needs of our students.”

Dr. Mickelburgh continued, “I hope you come to know me as an approachable, joy-filled, and knowledgeable partner in your child’s education. I value honest and open communication and partnership as we work together to strengthen the excellence that already exists at Saint Viator High School!"
